Our Academy

Clingan's Korean Karate Academy is the oldest continuous running martial arts academy in the Yuba-Sutter area. Established in 1971 by Grand Master William Clingan, we are dedicated to the historical preservation and practice of traditional Tang Soo Do Korean Karate. We believe in teaching the art of Korean Karate in its pure form, which dates back to ancient history.

Our program is perfectly suited for all ages 5 and up. We provide one of the largest karate programs for the local youth.

Our MMA program includes hard style Karate, boxing, wrestling, and Judo. We have produced over 25 fighters at the amateur and professional levels. This class is open to fighters and non-fighters alike. Minimum age is 14 years old, and student MUST be able to keep up with class tempo. It is fast paced and intense.

An Air Force veteran and martial arts practitioner since 1958. Grand Master Clingan was once elected Vice-President of the International Tang Soo Do Federation, and he has been awarded the rank of 9th Dan in the International Martial Arts Association by Grand Master Ki Yun Yi.

Grand Master Clingan, Master Allington and all the teachers are beyond awesome! The respect that is taught in the rooms is above and beyond. Check it out. I know a few friends that work out there. Greg was born a great fighter, but now at Clingans Korean Karate, he is a semi-pro fighter in the cage. They are learning self defense in karate but they train more than that. Just go check it out at Plumas St.
